Stay Healthy - Autumn Season

Autumn is typically marked by dry air, cooling winds and variable temperatures.
With the adverse effects of global warming and climate change mother nature is more tempestuous than ever. The extreme unpredictability of this season makes it harder than ever to stay in balance.

Remember:
Balanced living is key to good health and wellbeing!

These are my favorite protocols to offset the dry, cool and variable conditions of Autumn.

1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
(This could easily fill all five categories.)
The dry air rips moisture off your skin and out of your body!!
If you don't replenish this moisture daily, you will dehydrate.
Fact: By the time your lips feel dry you are very dehydrated.
Sip warm water throughout your day. That is the best and fastest way to rehydrate.
Warm herbal tea is second best (for when your taste buds get bored)

2. Get Oily!
Massage unrefined oil into your skin before you bathe and pour lots of oil on your food.
Oils adds a protective layer to your skin, and makes it very soft.
Make it organic. You don't want industrial chemical solvents (used to refine oil) on or in your body!
Coconut, sesame, olive, almond are a few great choices.

3. Eat liquid meals!
Fruit and green smoothies, vegetable soups and stews, soft cooked grains, stewed seasonal fruits like
apples and pears. These are all great ways to add more liquid to your body and keep you fluid.

4. Move your body daily!
Gentle movement practices like walking, yoga or tai chi will help keep your energy flowing,
in a balanced and grounded way. And do avoid extremely fast moving activities when you are
feeling over extended or out of balance.

5. Poop everyday!
If you are constipated, your body is definitely out of balance and most likely dehydrated.
If the above do not help, drink tripahala, slippery elm tea or smooth move teas daily. You can buy
these at any health food store. If 1-4 don't work, do an enema each evening for a few days.

* BONUS TIP:
Sometimes simply slowing down will help us relax enough to regain our center and feel connected
to the people and places around us. Holiday season tends to exacerbate Autumn's imbalance,
especially if you add more activities, more running around, more late nights…

* SUPER BONUS OFFER:
I love meeting new people. It's my mission to help folks reclaim their health and wellbeing.

diet or lifestyle and are looking to experience abundant vitality everyday for the rest of your life.

THE EVOLVING EDGE OF HEALTH

THE EVOLVING EDGE OF HEALTH -  YOUR FUTURE SELF
Lynne Paterson, Evolving Edge ™ Health Coach
November 2014

The "evolving edge" of health is an emerging conversation in the yoga community for which I am forever grateful. This is a game-changing, life-changing conversation on health and wellness!!
I invite you to step into this conversation with me. With your self, your family, friends and associates.

The current paradigm of health that we humans find ourselves in looks like this:
we will be born, we will grow, we will work, we will age, we will suffer, and finally we will die. With this mindset, we move through our lives with a sense of some invariable, unchangeable fact of life. We are all subject to the rules of mortality, unable to make a dent in this established paradigm.

In the course of life, we most certainly will experience the full spectrum of our humanity. We WILL grow, work, play, enjoy and suffer through a tidal wave of highs and lows…and most certainly we will leave our physical body behind at the end of life, when we pass on.

But what if we could shift reality by changing the conversation?
What if you could rewrite the script of growing old and aging? What if you knew that you could communicate with your future self with the expressed purpose of creating your future health?
What if you could create perfect health: happy, empowered, radiant, energetic, etc? Would you engage with me in that conversation?

CURRENT HEALTH = FUTURE SELF:
We all dream about our future: where we want to live, what we want to do, with whom we want to be. Everyone alive today has as image of their ideal life.

Our dreams may take form as a clear vision with detailed specifics; or may manifest as a strong desire to be fully alive and spiritually awake; or arise as a simple sense that there's something more, something better awaiting us… somewhere out on the horizon of our future.

This inner sense of 'something more, something else' IS your future self speaking up!
The soul of your future self is continually calling out to the soul of your current self. Are you listening?
When we establish a clear connection between our current self/health and our ideal future self/health, something magic happens. We begin to see something never before imagined - we discover a brand new connection awaiting us.

This newfound space - the space between where we are and where we wish to be - is a gateway, a bindu (center point of consciousness). This point, seam or gap is the midline between Universal Consciousness and human consciousness. It's the vesica pisces of sacred geometry; the space of creativity, freewill and unlimited potential. When we step into this gap on a daily basis, we impact our health, vitality and wellbeing is a most positive manner. We can learn to use the rules to our advantage - to shift our pathway into the future! We can begin to create our future self - today!

When we learn to hold this gap open, we'll discover more about our self, values and deepest desires. We'll learn to stand tall in the field of possibility and dream big. And it that energy field, we'll learn to strengthen the connection between who we are now and who we wish to become. As we uncover each essential strand of our vision a new level of awareness arises spontaneously.  We become more open. Insight, inspiration, motivation and wisdom arise because this new found awareness creates a powerful connection to the Source Light. When we connect to Source, it's creative energy flows into and fill that gap. It is this creative energy that empowers up to manifest our vision in the present moment.

Ultimately, it's important to stitch up this seam. When we narrow, then close this gap, we bring the  energy of our vision back to the present where we can harness its power and use it to make necessary changes or take the necessary actions to make it manifest.

DAY-TO-DAY LIFESTYLE MATTERS:
Your lifestyle is an amalgam of every action that you make within a single day.
An entire day is a microcosm of your entire life! Your whole life is made up of single days, single moments. So what you eat, how well you digest, how much you move, how deeply you sleep, how well you breathe, the quality of every thought and emotion, every word you speak becomes of tremendous importance. In essence, the what, why, where, when and how you live your daily life determines your future health and your future self. WOW!

A healthy lifestyle is a scenario where each day is supported by each moment and your every action within that moment. When you are consciously aligned with your higher purpose, your biggest dreams, your future self and your future health each day, in each moment - you become empowered.

When your everyday actions are random, unconscious or out of alignment with your future self
(i.e. when they are based on past memories, bad experiences, outdated models of being, fear, anger, etc) you undermine the sacred connection to Self/Source and can disempower your self. You risk loosing touch with your deepest wisdom, inner beauty and especially with your own health and vitality.

Maybe now you get a glimpse of how very important everyday living and everyday lifestyle is to your future self and future health. It might seem like an insurmountable task to be accountable for every passing moment - but this is exactly what a yogic lifestyle and spiritual growth calls forth in us.
Because, first and foremost, it is the little habits that we do each and every day that determine who we will become in the future and what level of health we will experience. If we want to enjoy health an vitality down the road, we must gain mastery and control of our health and life right now.

Imagine the Universal Self calling out to you:
"Wake Up, Pay Attention, Up, Every Moment of Your Life is a Blessing. You are Amazing."
If you listen closely, you might hear that voice inviting you into accountable action for your benefit.

When you ignore this inner call and the wisdom speaking through you - what could result?
Either (1) your current health/self remains the same. Static - just as you are - nothing ever evolves and your vision and dreams never manifest. You just plod along as your current self.
OR (2) your current health/self go downhill because you become disconnected and disempowered. In both instances, your future self and future health remain way out of reach, far out on the distant horizon.

If your thinking: "I want to evolve, I want to get to know my future self and manifest great health today" then I'd be delighted to carry on this conversation in person, by phone or Skype.

Please contact me for a complimentary "Evolving Edge" Health Consultation.
You'll need to schedule an appointment and set aside between 30-60 minutes so we can create a deep and meaningful conversation. Together we'll clarify where you are now, where you want to be and we'll assess the distance between them and see what you might do to bridge that gap.

BOTANICAL MEDICINE for Personal & Global Health

BOTANICAL MEDICINE for Personal & Global Health:

This summer, as I played in my garden among flowers, vegetables, wild plants and weeds
I heard a very clear message in my mind: "MAKE PLANT MEDICINE".

Now we all have lots of thoughts and words floating around inside our head all day - mostly stuff that should be ignored!! But once in a while a different voice speaks!! A voice that is super clear, loving and filled with purpose and intention. This was that type of voice.

And so I listened carefully and then followed through: I asked the various medicinal and herbal plants if they wanted me to pick them and use them. And the plants spoke back…and guided my way.

Now if you've ever hiked or walked with me round outdoors in nature, you'll know that I am very attuned to the plant kingdom. Observant. I love to see what's in the natural world around me - who are my plant neighbors, so to speak. And when I stroll through my garden, I pat and love and acknowledge each plant as I pass by.

ST JOHNSWORT was the first to say "yes, please use my flowers, for I will help you get through the dark months of Winter and cold. Let my bright yellow blossoms become good  medicine to keep your spirits high and senses enlivened." She told me when and how to harvest them, and how much to leave for the bees to collect.

So I picked daily when the sun was out, and the flowers were dry.
St Johnswort is called the
"HAPPINESS HERB" and is proven to cure mild depression.
She's also a great ally for menopausal women!!

Just look at her vibrant yellow
color - just like the sun itself. We have tincture and body oil for sale.

When MULLEIN made her presence in our garden two summers ago, she did it with panache.
No pussy-footing around. She stood over 6' tall in a central location - 15 feet off of our deck, where we held yoga classes all summer. Everyone adored her beauty and majesty!  This year her seeds spread and grew everywhere, and so I harvested her leaves to make tea and tincture; and a small amount of mullein flower oil (for earaches). Mullein is an awesome EXPECTORANT. I used her in September to clear my lungs, so I could avoid colds and flu…a strategy which has worked brilliantly so far!! No sniffles, so sore throat, no sinusitis. I am breathing better than ever…and so can you!

I wish I had a picture of me standing
next to the original mother plant!!

You see how furry her leaves are - they moisten dry lung tissue, while they scrub mucus and phlegm.
I mixed mullein with organic mint from my garden to make a delicious tea, and with 100% vodka to make the tincture.

NETTLES - STINGING NETTLES is one sassy plant. She will prick you if you don't take care.
These prickers dissolve when cooked or soaked in oil or alcohol. I have used nettles for many years!!
I love to add them to miso and other Winter soups or sauté them with onions and garlic. Her green leaves have the highest amount of chlorophyll and iron - more than any other green.
Nettles makes for strong blood building medicine, because chlorophyll from plant turns into red blood cells in the human. And strong blood supports strong immunity.

You can see the tiny barbs on nettles
stems. This is the way she protects   herself from the mouths of sheep, deer and other animals that would nibble her right down to the ground.

 Yay, Nettles!!

LEMON BALM grew quietly all summer long, until she took the shape of a beautiful round bush!!
One of my students said - "Do you have any lemon balm - I'd like some." And then I woke up.
I'd used her in smoothies and salads, but had forgotten about her gentle qualities.  Sweet Melissa, as she is also called, is as quiet and patient as her medicine. The adage "Lemon Balm to Keep You Calm" goes way back in herbal history!! Her medicinal properties will soothe your nervous system, quell anxiety and stress…and help you sleep better. We have tea, tincture and body oil for sale.

PLANT INTELLIGENCE:
Let me say that substituting plant and herbal medicine for synthetic drugs and pharmaceuticals will benefit both humankind and our precious planet. Plant medicines always have side-benefits (when used respectfully and correctly) and pharmaceutical drugs always have side-effects! Just read the back of any magazine advertisement for any drug. The whole page is a list of potentially harmful side-effects.

There is an ADDED BONUS when we ingest plant based medicines - their cosmic intelligence is transferred directly into our cells, tissues and organs. (The tinctured and base oils preserve more of the live essence of the plant than the dried herbs.)

Think about this - over the course of the growing season a plant absorbs sun, rain, moonlight, air from the atmosphere…and it also absorbs information from the cosmos and whatever surrounds it grows in -a forest, meadow, bog or garden. When we eat more plants (as Michael Pollen suggests) we become more intelligently attuned to the natural world. And when we are more connected, we will make better choices that support our individual growth and health and that of the whole planet.

Local plant-based medicines are going to be one of the medicines of the future, as local plants transmit important information and intelligence about the places we live. Where plants thrive, we will thrive.
