Stay Healthy - Autumn Season

Autumn is typically marked by dry air, cooling winds and variable temperatures.
With the adverse effects of global warming and climate change mother nature is more tempestuous than ever. The extreme unpredictability of this season makes it harder than ever to stay in balance.

Remember:
Balanced living is key to good health and wellbeing!

These are my favorite protocols to offset the dry, cool and variable conditions of Autumn.

1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
(This could easily fill all five categories.)
The dry air rips moisture off your skin and out of your body!!
If you don't replenish this moisture daily, you will dehydrate.
Fact: By the time your lips feel dry you are very dehydrated.
Sip warm water throughout your day. That is the best and fastest way to rehydrate.
Warm herbal tea is second best (for when your taste buds get bored)

2. Get Oily!
Massage unrefined oil into your skin before you bathe and pour lots of oil on your food.
Oils adds a protective layer to your skin, and makes it very soft.
Make it organic. You don't want industrial chemical solvents (used to refine oil) on or in your body!
Coconut, sesame, olive, almond are a few great choices.

3. Eat liquid meals!
Fruit and green smoothies, vegetable soups and stews, soft cooked grains, stewed seasonal fruits like
apples and pears. These are all great ways to add more liquid to your body and keep you fluid.

4. Move your body daily!
Gentle movement practices like walking, yoga or tai chi will help keep your energy flowing,
in a balanced and grounded way. And do avoid extremely fast moving activities when you are
feeling over extended or out of balance.

5. Poop everyday!
If you are constipated, your body is definitely out of balance and most likely dehydrated.
If the above do not help, drink tripahala, slippery elm tea or smooth move teas daily. You can buy
these at any health food store. If 1-4 don't work, do an enema each evening for a few days.

* BONUS TIP:
Sometimes simply slowing down will help us relax enough to regain our center and feel connected
to the people and places around us. Holiday season tends to exacerbate Autumn's imbalance,
especially if you add more activities, more running around, more late nights…
