How did YOU wake up this morning?

Did you wake up:
exhausted? energized? sluggish? refreshed? psyched?

Change is the one constant in the universe! Everything changes - that's forever - the one thing that will never change is...change! Consider the way you live your life: Does that change with each season? each year? Do you tweak your routines when you get new information about your health?
Or do you keep the same habits and schedules year after year?

Every business needs consistent sales to stay in business. The more regular the sales, the better. Branding is the vehicle a business uses to attract your business and to ensure repeat sales. When you favor one brand, product or service over another, you're more likely to become a repeat customer. You've been branded.

But honestly, when it comes to your health and wellbeing, we need a different approach entirely. While some choices like daily exercise might be useful all year long. Other choices, like our foods need to shift with each season, in order for us to maximize our health!

Think about your closet that is full of clothes you love. When the warm weather arrives you pack away your Winter coats, boots, scarves and mittens and pull out your Summer sandals, dresses, shorts and t-shirts.

Some things, especially the types of daily food and exercise, should (like our clothes) be swapped in and out of use, from season to season. This practice of seasonal living, eating and dressing allows our bodies to adapt to changes in temperature and climate with much more ease and much less stress, than if we were to eat, exercise and dress the same way all year long.

We've all been branded. Whether it's your favorite dress designer, your favorite news source, your favorite sports team, your favorite bistro or loaf of bread, business counts on branding you. Some branding is useful, and we all love to have our "go-to" places and things when we're short on time or need a dependable product or experience. But sometimes this 'go-to' habit becomes a big rut, which actually takes us out of the game of living fully each day.

Think about the many meals you grab and go, because you're rushing off to work. All the coffee you drink to keep up with a hectic schedule. Or the sleeping pills you gulp down because you're too stressed out at night to sleep. Or that standard meal that you eat every day for lunch, day after day. (I remember in sixth grade I ate a bologna and mayo sandwich for lunch every day because I did not have to think about it.) Boring!

When you live in a four season climate, as we do in New England, it's very important to get your seasonal game on. We'll feel more energized and get better sleep when we do. Getting more sleep will minimize stress. But if the way we are eating and living is adding stress to our bodies each day, we won't get the sleep we need to feel amazing the each morning. Would you wear your Winter clothes all Summer long? NO! You'd overheat! Would you wear Summer clothes all Winter long? Of course not, you'd freeze.

In the same way different foods have different thermo-dynamic properties. Some foods heat you up (Hot Sauce) and others cool you down (cucumbers). Some foods stimulate your mind and body (coffee) while others can calm you down (herbs). So if you are feeling stressed, tired, exhausted or lack sleep or never get a good night's sleep, then something in your life is out of balance. And since change is the core of the universe, it is possible to change poor sleep or lack of energy into deep sleep and abundant energy.

Make Every Day A Celebration Worth Enjoying!!

Fourth of July, 2016

Holidays are wonderful.

The Fourth of July fireworks are so beautiful. People, all the world over, love to celebrate life's special moments, events and milestones. And so do I.

But what about all those other days between holidays? If you could transform each mundane day
into one that feels like a celebration, without the negative side effects of indulging - would you?
If you could know exactly what your body needs in any given moment to feel healthier than ever - would you be interested?

In our culture, national holidays, sporting events and special occasions have become an easy excuse to plunge into excess behavior. Daily drinking (alcohol) and overeating are encouraged, and even considered normal in a "super-size-me" culture.

No wonder so many Americans are exhausted or overweight!
But what happens the next day, when you are hung over, have a huge brain fog, or worse, are so sick-to-your-stomach that you cannot even get out of bed? Was the way you chose to celebrate really worth it? Maybe, it was fun in the moment, or when you were twenty-something in college. What about now, when you've got kids to get off to camp and a long workday ahead of you?

Are those old patterns of indulgence or old habits still working for you?

There is a way to 'celebrate' without getting completely inebriated or strung out on sugary treats. There is a way to enjoy life fully without paying a big price the next day. It is possible to truly enjoy any celebration when know where your personal healthy limit lies. And to know this, you'll want to cultivate a highly attuned sense balance between what your mind craves and what your body actually needs. In yoga we call this: heightened awareness or mindfulness.

Overindulgence not only leaves you feeling tired, foggy or sick, over time it wears out the internal organs (liver, kidneys, spleen, etc.) and depresses your immune system. A weak immune system leaves you susceptible to harmful outside influences (germs), and creates a vicious cycle of fatigue and low functioning.

If you want each tomorrow to feel like a holiday that is really worth celebrating, then it is vital to look at your personal habits. Not just the habits you have around special occasions, but the habits you have every day! Our daily habits are responsible for how we feel each day. AMA: 80% of all chronic disease results from diet and lifestyle choices. This is true: whatever you choose to do/eat/say/think today, lays the ground for how you feel tomorrow!

Would like to live each day as fully as you can: to be healthy, alive, awake, pain-free and happy in your own body? If losing weight, increasing energy, preventing illness/disease and nourishing yourself deeply is important to you - contact me. If you love your life and work so much that you'd rather jump up and down for joy than "miss out" on a single day because you're exhausted, sleep deprived or home in bed, then please know that I am here to help.

Every day I practice healthy lifestyle habits that make me feel alive, awake and happy. And most of all, I look younger, as I age.
